Outdoor outerwear, second-hand, one of each only. What comes through us under this label is mostly insulated: puffer jackets and vests, occasionally a shell, built for cold weather rather than for a look.
On insulated outerwear the part that matters is the part you can't see. Down loses its loft if it's been stored squashed or washed badly, so an old puffer can look perfect and still feel flat. We tell you how a piece sits and photograph any panel that's lost its fill. Zips and baffles are the other things that go, and we check both. Older waterproof coatings break down whatever you do, so we describe shells for what they are rather than promising they'll keep rain out.
For outerwear from every brand, browse vintage jackets. For more technical pieces try vintage Arc'teryx, or vintage Mossy Oak for the outdoors end of it.
Common questions
Does old down still work?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Down loses loft if it's been stored compressed or washed too hot, and that isn't always recoverable. We describe how each piece sits and photograph any flat panels.
Is a vintage shell still waterproof?
Assume it isn't. Waterproof coatings and taped seams break down with age however a jacket's been kept, so treat an older shell as a windbreaker unless we've said otherwise.
How should I wash a puffer?
Very carefully, or not at all. A hot wash or a home dryer will clump the fill permanently. Spot clean where you can, and use a specialist cleaner if the whole thing needs doing.
